About 15 km from Mas de la Lance you find Richerenches; a medieval village in an area known also as the “Enclave of Popes”. The main attraction in the town is the most important Truffle Market in France, which runs every Saturday morning from mid-November to mid-March.
You will experience the special atmosphere of this market, where the truffle sellers work out of the back of their cars and vans in order to negotiate the quantities and the prices of their product.
The black truffle, Tuber Melanosporum, is also called “black diamond” since it is very rare. It can only be found near truffle oaks and hazel trees. For a human it is almost impossible to find them, so for many years now dogs have been trained to sniff out the elusive truffles.
